She first learned about ShareBaby while working at a community recreation center, where she worked for 17 years. After retiring, it was important for her to continue helping in the community so she became part of the outreach team at Terecia's Housing, a ShareBaby partner that offers temporary housing and support services to keep families together. Terri has seen firsthand how affording basic necessities like diapers, wipes, clothing, and other essential items can be a huge struggle for families. "Frustration and concerns for the babies and their needs was priority for both myself and the families. The resources from ShareBaby...are life-saving mentally, physically, and financially." This year, Terri has seen increased financial challenges for many families. Families helping families: it is the cornerstone of ShareBaby. When she moved to Baltimore during the pandemic, Kayla Raincook was looking for a meaningful way to get involved in the community. Her wife had a previous connection with ShareBaby and suggested she volunteer. In February 2022, she applied to become a Session and Community Lead Volunteer. "I was hoping to spread the word about ShareBaby’s mission in our neighborhood and meet others who were equally passionate. Little did I know, the organization’s impact would become even more personal when I became a parent in June 2022." Kayla's dedication to ShareBaby extends to leading volunteer sessions while 9 months pregnant and spending her first solo hours postpartum at a ShareBaby meeting (yes, seriously!). As a parent of two now, she also has a clear understanding of how many supplies it takes to care for a young child. "No family should ever have to worry about how to provide these essentials, but unfortunately, many do. Every child deserves to have their basic needs met. The work ShareBaby does has an unequivocally positive impact on children, families, and the broader Baltimore community." We’re helping to break down barriers for families to thrive. Taking care of five boys, ranging in age from 1.5 to 11 years old, is no small feat. For Ms. Rona Perry, each day is a whirlwind of different needs, as each of her five nephews needs something different—sometimes at the same time. Some days it can feel chaotic and overwhelming, but Ms. Rona takes it all in stride and says with a laugh, "Everybody’s pulling you in all different directions, and you’re just like, ‘Oh, Lord!’" But amidst the challenges, there is some relief: the support Ms. Rona has received from the Judy Center at Abbottston Elementary and ShareBaby. “They have been a godsend. The diapers, wipes, and even a [double] stroller have been lifesavers.
